SOFF Overseas Cricket Club Your cricket club in Sri Lanka

Player Waiver and Assumption of Risk

What every adult player is asked to acknowledge before taking the field.

Pre-launch summary. This page explains what the waiver will cover so nothing at checkout comes as a surprise. The binding Adult Player Waiver and Assumption of Risk, Medical and Emergency Consent and Photography and Media Consent are under review by qualified Sri Lankan advisers and will be presented in full, for acceptance, before any player takes the field.

Cricket carries real risk

Leather-ball cricket is played with a hard ball at speed. Participation carries a risk of injury — including serious injury — from the ball, the bat, the stumps, collisions, the ground surface, heat, humidity and the ordinary physical demands of the game. Sri Lankan conditions can be hot and humid, and matches may be long.

By playing in a SOFF OCC fixture you accept those ordinary risks.

What you will be asked to confirm

  • that you are 18 or over;
  • that you are medically fit to play at the level you have selected, and have taken medical advice where you should;
  • that you have disclosed any injury, condition or medication relevant to safe participation;
  • that you hold, or have deliberately chosen not to hold, travel and medical insurance covering amateur sport in Sri Lanka;
  • that you will wear protective equipment appropriate to the fixture;
  • that you will follow the laws of the game, the fixture’s playing conditions, the officials’ decisions and any safety instruction given by SOFF or the ground; and
  • that you accept the ordinary risks of playing cricket.

Equipment

Unless a fixture page or briefing expressly says an item is provided, bring your own. Never assume that a bat, helmet, pads, gloves, abdominal protection, spikes or clothing will be available.

Medical and emergency consent

You will be asked to confirm an emergency contact and to consent to SOFF or the ground arranging urgent medical assistance if you cannot consent at the time. Emergency treatment, ambulance and hospital costs are yours or your insurer’s, not SOFF’s.

Photography and media

Where photography or recording is planned at a fixture, the fixture page or briefing will say so, and will explain how consent, opt-out requests and any commercial use are handled.

Conduct

Discrimination, harassment, abuse, violence, deliberate dangerous play, serious intoxication, corruption-related conduct and disregard of officials or safety instructions are not acceptable. SOFF may remove a participant where reasonably necessary to protect the match and others.

What this does not do

A waiver does not remove liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and it does not excuse SOFF from organizing each confirmed fixture in good faith and with reasonable care.

Junior players

Players under 18 are not accepted into the normal adult programme. Any junior fixture will run under a separately approved safeguarding policy with guardian consent and its own documentation.
